Pochinok

a city and administrative center of Pochinok Raion, Smolensk Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the Khmara River of the Dnieper River basin. Railroad station on the RoslavF-Smolensk line, 62 km southeast of Smolensk. Pochinok has a plant that produces reinforced-concrete products.

in Russia up to the 20th century, a new rural settlement. The term is first found in pistsovye knigi (cadastres) from the 15th century. Even pochinki that began as a single household of peasants from a nearby village often grew into large settlements.
