Baskunchak Layers
Baskunchak Layers
(named after Lake Baskunchak), identified by the Soviet geologist A. N. Mazarovich in 1939 in the upper part of the lower division of the Triassic system of the East European (Russian) platform. The Baskunchak Layers are composed of red clays and sands with Ostracoda (Iananyk suite) underneath and clays and limestones (to 170 m) with ammonites (Firotites, Doricranites), Ostracoda, and fish and reptile bones (Bogdo suite) above.
