Podsusedniki
(also podsosedniki, sosedi), a term used to designate impoverished peasants and posadskie liudi (merchants and artisans) in 16th-and 17th-century Russia who did not have an independent livelihood. These individuals joined the households of tiaglye krest’iane (peasants with means to meet the fiscal and labor obligations known as tiaglo) and helped them in their work.
