Vladimir Lvovich Ershov

Born Sept. 16 (28), 1896, in Moscow; died there June 7, 1964. Soviet Russian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1948).

Ershov became an actor at the Moscow Art Theater in 1916. He played primarily heroic roles, portraying high-minded, romantic characters. His best parts were Boris Godunov in A. K. Tolstoy’s Tsar Fedor loannovich, Nikita Vershinin in Vs. Ivanov’s Armored Train 14–69, Satin in Gorky’s The Lower Depths, Nekhliudov in a play based on L. N. Tolstoy’s Resurrection, Velikatov in Ostrovskii’s Talents and Admirers, Sir Robert Chiltern in Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, General Griggs in Hellman’s Autumn Garden, and Academician Morgunov in Aleshin’s Everything Is Left to People. Ershov was awarded three orders.
