Sphagnum Bog

a marsh generally located at the head of a lake and thickly covered with mosses of the genus Sphagnum, which form peat. Sphagnum bogs are often convex, because the sphagnum moss grows more abundantly in the center of the bog, where the mineral content of the water is lower. Sphagnum bogs predominate in temperate latitudes of the forest and forest-tundra zones.
