释义 | Riesman DavidRiesman David(1909-2002) US sociologist and journalist whose work, especially The Lonely Crowd (written in 1950 with N. Glazer and R. Denney), was in vogue in the 1950s and early 60s. The hypothesis of the study was that the basic character type within US society was changing from an inner-directed to an other-directed type (see OTHER-DIRECTEDNESS), in which character is increasingly formed by the example of peers and contemporaries rather than as previously by ‘internalized adult authority’. The work raised themes about modern society taken up subsequently by many theorists. |
