[′trav·əl·iŋ ¦wāv ′mā·zər] (physics) A ruby maser used with a comblike slow-wave structure and a number of yttrium iron garnet isolators to give L-band amplification (390 to 1550 megahertz); operation is at the temperature of liquid helium (4.2 K).
