Pogosian, Ripsime Misakovna

Born Apr. 24 (May 6), 1899, in Tbilisi; died Nov. 26, 1972, in Yerevan. Soviet Armenian poet. Honored Cultural Worker of the Armenian SSR.

Pogosian studied at the faculty of history and literature of the University of Transcaucasia and began publishing in 1919. Her first collection, Poems, appeared in 1930. She published collections of verse and narrative poems for children, including Silk (1931), Mother’s (1936), and My Flower (1953). Other works included the verse collections Together With My Sons (1942), Joy (1948), and Poems (1950) and collections of sketches. Her poetry is characterized by an artistic insight into the universal and the national, the ancient and the modern. She has translated into Armenian works by such poets as Pushkin, Lermontov, Mayakovsky, and P. G. Tychina.
