Pogradeci

 

a city in Albania and the capital of the Pogradeci rrethi (district). Population, approximately 10,000. The city has woodworking and food-processing enterprises.

Situated on Lake Ohrid at an elevation of 712 m, Pogradeci is a mountain climatic health resort. Winters are warm and humid, with average January temperatures of approximately 5°C, and summers very warm, with average July temperatures of 25°C. The average annual precipitation exceeds 1,100 mm. Treatments include climatotherapy and bathing (from early June to late October); there is a sandy beach. Patients with nontubercular diseases of the upper respiratory tract, functional disorders of the nervous system, and secondary anemias are treated. A tourist center, Pogradeci has a house of rest and vacation hotels.
