Vegetable Washer

a machine for washing tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables before they are processed or shipped. Machines used in the USSR have a scoop for manual loading of the vegetables into a slat washing drum, which is immersed in a water bath and has a screw feeder inside that agitates the vegetables during washing, moves them toward the outlet end of the drum, and ejects them onto a conveyor for discharge into a container. The machine is equipped with a spray mechanism for final washing of the vegetables on the conveyor with pure water and a pump for feeding water into the mechanism and filling the bath. The working members of vegetable washers are driven by an electric motor with a power of 2.8 kilowatts. Their productivity is as high as 2 tons per hour.
