(1) A subtype of major depression which is characterised by retention of mood reactivity (the ability to respond positively to positive events), in contrast to those with "melancholy", who cannot.
(2) A rarely used synonym for panic disorder.

A form of depression in which overeating and oversleeping are commonly observed, often but not exclusively in association with leaden paralysis, extreme sensitivity to interpersonal rejection, and highly reactive moods.
