atypical ductal hyperplasia

atypical ductal hyperplasia

Premalignant lesion of the breast ducts.

atypical ductal hyperplasia

Breast An intraductal lesion characterised by the proliferation of evenly distributed monomorphic epithelial cells which are morphologically identical to those seen in DCIS. ADH differs from DCIS as it involves less than 2 membrane-bound spaces or measures less than 2 mm and is usually confined to a single lobular unit.
Pancreas Pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia, see there.

atypical ductal hyperplasia

Abbreviation: ADH
A premalignant lesion of the breast. It is often found in biopsy specimens of patients with breast cancer. It is characterized by a small number of breast ducts with abnormal cellular and glandular structures. It is hypothesized that atypical ductal hyperplasia is one of several breast lesions that can develop into ductal carcinoma in situ and, ultimately, into an invasive cancer. See also: hyperplasia
