pointing stick[′pȯint·iŋ ‚stik] (computer science) A small rubberized device located in the center of a computer keyboard, which is moved with a finger tip to position a pointer. pointing stickA pointing device that looks like a pencil eraser between the G, H and B keys. It is moved with the forefinger, while the thumb is used to press related keys located in front of the space bar. IBM popularized this device by introducing the TrackPoint on its ThinkPad notebooks.
