[sfiŋ′gȯid·ē·ə] (invertebrate zoology) A superfamily of Lepidoptera in the suborder Heteroneura consisting of the sphinx, hawk, or hummingbird moths; these are heavy-bodied forms with antennae that are thickened with a pointed apex, a well-developed proboscis, and narrow wings.
