Sysert’

a city and the administrative center of Sysert’ Raion, Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the Sysert’ River of the Ob’ River basin, on the Sverdlovsk-Cheliabinsk highway 50 km south of Sverdlovsk. Population, 20,000 (1975).

Sysert’ was founded in 1733 with the construction of a metallurgical plant; the plant remained in operation until 1932. The city is the site of the Uralgidromash Scientific Industrial Association. It also has plants producing electric motors for household appliances and fine ceramics.
