Established: 1918.
Location:56 km southeast of Windsor on the most southern point on Canada's mainland -- a large sandspit on the north shore of Lake Erie.
Facilities:Visitor center (é), transit train, observation tower, boardwalk, trails (12 km; @di.), theater program and exhibits, interpretive programs, food concession, boat and bicycle rentals.
Activities:Hiking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, bicycling, skating, bird watching, butterfly watching cross-country skiing.
Special Features:Point Pelee is one of Canada's smallest national parks, but still attracts nearly 400,000 visitors each year. Each spring, birders from around the world converge on Point Pelee to take part in the "Festival of Birds." The month-long festival celebrates the arrival of some of the highest concentrations of migrating songbirds found in North America. Park is also a temporary home to thousands of migrating Monarch butterflies in the fall.
