The UK definition of ward round is the same as other health systems. A so-called firm—with doctors from the top (consultant) to the bottom (FY1) of the organisation—visits each patient on their list, reviewing their history, examination, investigations and treatment.
A business ward round is a ward round which concentrates on dealing with the patients’ particulars, assuring that changes in a patient’s status have been investigated and addressed rather than on teaching, in contrast to a teaching ward round, which plays a more formative role in a junior’s training.
