Warsaw Conference of 1948

Warsaw Conference of 1948

a meeting of the foreign ministers of Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, the USSR, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia. The conference was called June 23-24 to examine questions arising from the London Separate Conference of 1948, at which the Western powers adopted resolutions aimed at putting an end to the four-power control mechanism in Germany and at completing its political and economic partition in order to create an imperialistic West German state.

The participants in the Warsaw Conference pointed out the illegal character of the London Conference resolutions and the necessity for strict observance of the Potsdam and other Allied agreements on Germany. They proposed the completion of the demilitarization of Germany, the establishment of four-power control over the heavy industry of the Ruhr for a certain period, the formation of a provisional democratic and peace-loving all-German government made up of representatives of the democratic parties and organizations of Germany, the conclusion of a peace agreement with Germany, and the execution of a number of other measures intended to provide a durable guarantee against the repetition of German aggression in the future.
