(ADI) A human’s safe daily intake of any chemical, in milligrams per kilogram of body weight.

An estimate of the amount of a chemical or toxin that a person can ingest daily over a human’s lifetime without appreciable health risk, divided by an average person’s lifespan.
The concept of the ADI was developed by the WHO and FAO for chemicals such as additives to foods, pesticide residues and veterinary drugs in foods; ADIs are derived from lab toxicity data and from human experiences of such chemicals when available, and incorporate a safety factor; the ADI is an estimate of the amount of a substance in food that can be ingested over a lifetime by humans without significant risk to health.
