Weber-Barstow manoeuvre test

Weber-Barstow manoeuvre test

A visual test used to assess leg length asymmetry.
Technique
The patient begins in a supine position with his or her heels off the end of the examining table; the examiner holds the patient’s feet and places his or her thumbs over the medial malleoli while providing slight traction on the legs, and instructs the patient to place both feet on the table next to each other, flex both knees and hips, and then instucts the patient to raise his or her hips upward and then return them to the starting position. Any difference in the final position of the thumbs indicates asymmetry.
