In north-central UT, north of Salt Lake City; original county; organized Jan 31, 1850 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For the Weber River, which runs through the county. The river is itself named for John H. Weber (?-1859), a Dutch sea captain and trapper who traveled west with Gen. Ashby and was killed near the river, or for another trapper named Weber
