Weft Winder, Automatic

a device used in weaving to wind the weft yarn from bobbins onto the spools used in shuttle looms.

Different designs of automatic weft winders may use guides or rollers to wind the yarn onto the spools. In machines that use yarn guides (the type most commonly used), the yarn is unwound from the bobbin and passes successively through the eye of a balloon limiter, a tension device, and the eye of a stop-motion device; it is then fed through the eye of the yarn guide, which distributes the yarn along the spool. Full spools are automatically replaced with empty ones. The spools revolve at speeds up to 12,000 rpm.
