Benediktsson, Gunnar

 

Born Oct. 9, 1892, in Austur Skaftafell. Icelandic author.

Benediktsson was a pastor; he left the church and joined the Communist Party of Iceland. In the 1920’s he turned to literature. He is the author of the realistic novel of folk life Anna Sighvatsdóttir (1928) and others. His publicistic sketches expose the vices of bourgeois society (the collections The Tree of Knowledge, 1939; The Great Attack, 1941; The Old Adam Within Us, 1944).
