Welding Gun

a portable device for semiautomatic welding of parts of various articles. Guns are used where welding with stationary equipment would be difficult or impossible. They are used in the manufacture of automobiles, railroad cars, farm machinery, and similar equipment. They are also used for work performed under unusually complex operating conditions, such as exist on orbiting spacecraft.

There are welding guns for resistance spot welding, arc welding (including flux-cored and gas-shield arc welding), and electron-beam welding. The guns can also be used for welding various parts and components of machines, mechanisms, and structures, for example, rollers, hooks, and pins. There are many types of welding guns, the design being determined by the intended use. Thus welding guns for resistance spot welding consist of a frame on which the electrodes and a pneumatic cylinder for compressing the electrodes are mounted. Arc-welding guns are designed so that the discharge occurs between the stationary electrode and the workpiece; guns for flux-cored arc welding are equipped with a flux-cored electrode.
