West, Fred

West, Fred

A British serial killer (1941–1995) who tortured, raped and killed at least 11 young, usually underage girls, including 2 of his own daughters, many at the house he shared with his wife Rosemary, who was also implicated in most of the murders.
West hanged himself awaiting trial in 1995; shortly thereafter, Rosemary was sentenced to life imprisonment and, in 1997, Home Secretary Jack Straw subjected her to a whole-life tariff, which means that she will not have the possibility of being released from prison.
