The Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area covers 20,000 acres and is consideredthe largest marsh in the interior of the United States and the mostimportant migration point for shorebirds in North America. Less than 20 miles away, the 22,135-acre QuiviraNational Wildlife Refuge is a staging area for more than 500,000 birds during their spring migration. Opportunities abound for bird and wildlife watching,hiking, and many other nature activities at both locations.
Legth: 77 miles. Start/Endpoint: Byway begins 5 miles west of Hoisington, at thewest junction of US 281 and SH 4; and end at the junction of Route 636with with US 281. Time to Allow: 1.5 hours. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2005).
