Whitehead, Wilbur C. (Cherrier)

(1866–1931) bridge authority; born in Cleveland, Ohio. President of the Simplex Automobile Company, he turned to bridge in 1910 and played on the 1928 Vanderbilt Cup winners. He helped popularize bridge by competing in games described on radio and invented many standard conventions of bidding and play.
