Wielkopolska

the historical name of one of the provinces of Poland. Originally (9th to 11th centuries), Wiel-kopolska was the territory in the basin of the Varta and Notec rivers. Later, Wielkopolska included the territory bounded by Silesia and the Lubusz Land on the west, Pomerania on the north, Mazovia on the east, and Malopolska on the south. In the 16th through 18th centuries, Mazovia and Royal Prussia were part of the “provinces of Wielkopolska.” In the 19th century, Wielkopolska was used as a synonym for the Grand Principality of Poznań.
