Wiles, Peter John De La Foss

Born Nov. 25,1919. British economist.

Wiles graduated from Oxford University, where he taught from 1947 to 1960. In 1965 he became a professor at the University of London. Although Wiles is known as a sovietologist, he nevertheless misinterprets the essence of socialist planning, contending that a socialist state pursues subjective and arbitrary economic policies that fail to take into account objective realities. Wiles has helped formulate the theory of the “electronic market, ” which holds that the market, as a form of commodity exchange, is not really necessary, since its function could be performed just as well by a computer.
