Braune, Wilhelm

 

Born Feb. 20, 1850, in Saxony; died Nov. 10, 1926, in Heidelberg. German linguist, specialist in the history of the German language.

Braune joined the neogrammarian movement. With H. Paul he founded the journal Beitrage zur Geschichte der deutschen Sprache und Literatur in 1874. In 1876 the reprinting of German literary monuments was undertaken upon Braune’s initiative. (More than 300 volumes have been published.)
