Ferrero, Willy

Born May 21, 1906, in Portland, Me.; died Mar. 23, 1954, in Rome. Italian conductor. Member of the World Peace Council.

A child prodigy, Ferrero began conducting at an early age. In 1924 he graduated from the Vienna Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. An opera and symphony conductor, Ferrero worked primarily in Milan. He also toured extensively, visiting Russia in 1913 and the USSR in 1936 and 1952. His varied repertoire consisted of works of diverse styles. It included the works of Russian composers, such as P. I. Tchaikovsky, M. P. Mussorgsky, N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, and A. K. Liadov. Ferrero composed a symphonic poem and several instrumental chamber works.
