winding sheet n (Ecclesiastical Terms) a sheet in which a corpse is wrapped for burial; shroud shroud (ʃraʊd) n. 1. a cloth or sheet in which a corpse is wrapped for burial. 2. something that covers, conceals, or protects: a shroud of darkness. 3. any of a number of fixed ropes or wires that converge from the head of a ship's mast and keep it from swaying. 4.
