Witbank

a city in the Republic of South Africa, in the province of Transvaal. Population, 24,500 (1960). It is the center of a coal basin providing almost two-thirds of the nation’s coal. The chemical industry is also important. A metallurgical plant was constructed in 1968 to process local ores. There is also an electric power station.
