Wittenberge

a city in the German Democratic Republic in Schwerin District on the Elbe. Population, 32,800 (1967). The industry of the city includes machine building (sewing machines) and major railroad workshops. Wittenberge has enterprises producing artificial fibers and cellulose. There are textile and food-processing industries in the city.
