Arus Voskanian
Voskanian, Arus Tigranovna
Born Apr. 28 (May 10), 1899, in Constantinople; died July 20, 1943, in Yerevan. Soviet Armenian actress. People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR (1935).
Voskanian began her stage career in Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1908. In 1910 she moved to the Caucasus, where she performed in the theaters of Baku and Tbilisi; in 1921 she became one of the leading actresses of the G. Sundukian Armenian Theater in Yerevan. Her roles have included Sona and Susan in Shirvanzade’sEv//S/?/r/f andNamus, Katerina and Kruchinina in Ostrovskii’s Storm and Guilty Without Guilt, Rachel’ in Gorky’s Vassa Zheleznova, Antigone in Sophocles’ Antigone, Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Susanna in Beaumarchais’s The Marriage of Figaro, Panova in Trenev’s Liubov’ larovaia, and Mariia Nikolaevna in Simonov’s Russian People.
