Wood-Bending Machine

Wood-Bending Machine

a machine for bending wood parts. Such a machine gives parts a lasting bent form without destroying the bonds between the parts of the wood. Wood-bending machines are widely used in producing furniture, skis, and wheels. Their operation is based on the use of the plastic properties of wood, and they can be used to bend wood stock without pressing or to press wood pieces and reduce them by 10-30 percent across the grain, depending on the type of wood used. A movable template is placed on a wood-bending machine and joined to the front end of a metal bar in order to give the stock being worked the required bent form. A pressure roller presses across the grain of the stock in the bending process. When bending is done without pressing, the roller is set to one side or removed. Before bending, the wood stock is subjected to hydrothermal treatment.
