WoodburyWoodbury.1 Residential city (1990 pop. 10,904), seat of Gloucester co., SW N.J., in the Philadelphia–Camden metropolitan area; settled 1683, inc. as a city 1871. It is a trade and service center, and petrochemical companies are nearby. Originally a Quaker settlement, Woodbury tried to remain neutral in the American Revolution; however, the armies of both sides occupied the town, and many battles were fought in the vicinity. The city's 18th-century buildings include the Cooper House, where Cornwallis stopped in 1777, and a Friends' meetinghouse. The county historical society has collections in the John Lawrence House (1765).2 Town (1990 pop. 8,236), Orange co., S N.Y.; inc. 1889.
