A cystic mass in the kidney lined by flat, cytologically bland cuboidal epithelium, which focally has simple small papillary projections that become somewhat more complex in the cyst wall.
Aetiology
Sporadic cases, associated with von Hippel-Landau syndrome and end-stage renal disease on dialysis.
DiffDx
Cystic nephroma, simple cysts, cystic papillary renal cell carcinoma.
