X band
X band[′eks ‚band] (communications) A radio-frequency band extending from 8 to 12 gigahertz. X bandA radio-frequency band extending from 8 to 12 GHz, corresponding to wavelengths of 3.75 to 2.5 cm. There are various types of X-band radars. They include continuous-wave, pulsed, single-pole, dual-pole, SAR, and phased array. X-band radar has various uses in civil, military, and government institutions. X-band radar is used in some systems for weather monitoring, air traffic control, air defense tracking, and vehicle speed detection for law enforcement. The relative short wavelength at X-band frequencies makes possible high-resolution imaging radars for target identification and target discrimination. |
