founded in 1956 in Yakutsk. In 1978 the university had departments of physics, mathematics, biology and geography, history and philology, foreign languages, engineering, agriculture, and medicine. There were evening, correspondence, and preparatory divisions, a graduate school, a student planning and design bureau, a computer center, 48 subdepartments, and 88 laboratories. The university’s research library contained more than 440,000 volumes.
In 1978 the university had an enrollment of 6,600 students and a faculty of 482, including 13 doctors of sciences and professors and 210 candidates of sciences and docents. The university publishes scientific works and textbooks.
