Yamamoto Senji

Born May 29, 1889, in Kyoto; died Mar. 5, 1929, in Tokyo. Japanese public figure and biologist.

Yamamoto studied in the USA from 1907 to 1912 and received a degree from the University of Kyoto. He taught at the University of Kyoto and at Doshisha University, also in Kyoto. In 1918 he was associated with the socialist Shinjinkai circle. He headed a school for workers in 1924 and joined the Rodo Nominto party in 1926, becoming head of its Kyoto branch in 1927. In 1928 he was elected to parliament as a representative of Rodo Nominto. Yamamoto, an opponent of reaction, was killed by a right-wing terrorist.
