Yastrzemski, Carl (Michael)

(1939– ) baseball player; born in Southampton, N.Y. During his 23-year career as an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox (1961–83), he hit 452 home runs and won the league Most Valuable Player Award in 1967. Nicknamed "Yaz," he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1989.
