Yasui Kaoru

Born Apr. 25, 1907, in Osaka Prefecture. Japanese jurist and public figure.

After graduating from Tokyo University in 1930, Yasui joined the staff of the university as an assistant; in 1943 he became a professor of international law there. After World War II he was named a professor at Kanazawa University (1951) and at Hosei University in Tokyo. During this period he became active in the peace movement, and from 1955 to 1965 he headed the Japan Council Against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs.

Yasui received the International Lenin Prize For Strengthening Peace Among Nations in 1958.
