Special Features:In the late 1800s, Don Vicente Martinez Ybor came to the Tampa area andbuilt a city that became the "Cigar Capital of the World." From theopening of the first cigar factory in 1886 until the 1930s, Ybor Citywas a flourishing community, but competition from machines, popularityof cigarettes, and the Depression combined to bring about the declineof the city's cigar industry. The park is dedicated to preserving YborCity's unique cultural heritage, and the museum traces the history ofthe city and its cigar-making industry.
