Yerevan Art Gallery

(also Art Gallery of Armenia), founded in 1921 as a section of the State Museum of Armenia (from 1931 to 1935 it was a section of the Cultural History Museum of Armenia; from 1935 to 1947 it was the independent Museum of Fine Arts).

The collection of the Yerevan Art Gallery includes about 16,000 works of Armenian, Russian, Western European, and Oriental fine art and decorative applied art. In the section of Armenian art there are works by A. Ovnatanian, I. K. Aivazovskii, G. Z. Bashindzhagian, S. M. Agadzhanian, E. P. Shain, M. S. Sar’ian, G. M. Giurdzhian, S. L. Stepanian, A. M. Sarksian, M. A. Aslamazian, E. M. Isabekian, and O. M. Zardarian. The Russian art section contains works by S. F. Shchedrin, K. P. Briullov, I. E. Repin, V. A. Serov, K. A. Somov, A. N. Benua, S. T. Konenkov, K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, W. Kandinsky, and M. Z. Chagall. In the Western European art section there are works by P. P. Rubens, F. Drouais, H. Fragonard, and G. Courbet.
