Yümen

(also Laochiinmiao), a city in Northwest China, in Kansu Province. Yiimen is served by the Lan-Shin (Lanchou-Urumchi) Railroad. An oil-field center since 1939, the city is linked to Lanchou by an oil pipeline and has two refineries. After new oilfields, such as Tach’ing, were developed in Northeast China in the 1960’s, Yümen lost its importance as the chief center of the petroleum industry of the People’s Republic of China.
