Bikbulatova, Zaituna Islamovna
Born May 28 (June 10), 1908, in the village of Safarovo, in what is now Chishmy Raion, Bashkir ASSR. Soviet Bashkir actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1973). Member of the CPSU since 1944.
A graduate of the theater division of the arts technicum in Ufa, Bikbulatova joined the Bashkir Drama Theater in 1927. Her roles have included Zuleikha in Karim’s The Lonely Birch Tree and Tankabike in his On the Night of a Lunar Eclipse, Zeinab in Mirzagitov’s My Mother’s Gray Hair, Desdemona in Shakespeare’s Othello, and Laurencia in Lope de Vega’s Fuente Ovejuna. She has also appeared as Larisa in Ostrovskii’s The Girl Without a Dowry, Anna in a stage version of L. Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and Mariia Aleksandrovna Ul’ianovna in Popov’s The Family and in Ishmurat’s To Meet the Storm.
Bikbulatova received the K. S. Stanislavsky State Prize of the RSFSR in 1967 and the Salavat Iulaev State Prize of the Bashkir ASSR in 1976 and has been awarded four orders and various medals.
