Zaraut-Sai

a ravine in the southwestern spurs of the Gissar Range in the Uzbek SSR. Ochre drawings have been found on the walls of rock shelters and in the niches and small grottoes of Zaraut-Sai. These were investigated by G. V. Parfenov (1940-45) and A. A. Formozov (1964). The drawings primarily depict people hunting with dogs for wild oxen, goitered gazelles, goats, and boars. The hunters are armed with bows and arrows and dressed in camouflaged clothing. Other things are also depicted. The drawings most likely date from the Neolithic or Mesolithic. Later drawings have also been found here.
