Zaria Vostoka
(Dawn of the East), the republic news-paper of the Georgian SSR, published in Russian. Zaria Vostoka was founded on May 3, 1922, as the organ of the Transcaucasian Krai Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) and became the republic newspaper in 1936, when the Georgian SSR was formed. It is published in Tbilisi six times a week. In 1957, on the 35th anniversary of its founding and in view of the publication of its 10,000th issue, Zaria Vostoka was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for its remarkable activity in mobilizing the working people of the republic for the successful fulfillment of the tasks of communist construction. The newspaper had a circulation of 130,000 copies in 1972.
