Zarubin, Ivan Ivanovich
Born Sept. 27 (Oct. 9), 1887, in the Crimea; died Feb. 3, 1964, in Leningrad. Soviet Iranologist. Professor at Leningrad State University until 1949.
Zarubin studied the Tadzhik and Iranian languages of the Pamir mountain dwellers. He wrote Materials and Notes on the Ethnology of the Mountain Tadzhiks: The Bartang Valley (1917), The Vershik Dialect of the Kandzhut Language (1927), andBeludzhi Tales (parts 1-2, 1932-49).
